A £100 casino bonus sounds like £100 of extra value. In reality, the amount printed on the promotional banner tells you very little about what the offer is actually worth. Before bonus funds become withdrawable, players may need to complete wagering requirements while dealing with game restrictions, bet limits, expiration periods, and normal gambling losses.

What Does Bonus Expected Value Actually Mean?

Expected value, or EV, is a mathematical concept describing the average outcome of an event if the same situation could theoretically be repeated many times.

Lower required turnover generally means less mathematical exposure during the conversion process, although actual outcomes can still vary significantly.

A Better Way to Compare Two Promotions

Imagine Offer A provides £150 in promotional credit while Offer B provides only £75.

The larger offer might initially look twice as valuable.

Now suppose Offer A involves considerably more wagering, narrower game eligibility, tougher bet restrictions, and a shorter completion period. Offer B has simpler conditions and lower required turnover.

The comparision is no longer £150 versus £75.

A better assessment asks how much value can reasonably reach the withdrawable stage after the rules and mathematical cost of play are considered.

Volatility can overwhelm the theoretical average during short periods.

For that reason, EV should be used to understand how promotional structures work rather than as evidence that gambling can reliably generate income.

That distinction keeps the analysis useful without confusing mathematics with certainty.
